Any Hoosiers heading to Indy1500 Gun Show??

This weekend. State Fair Grounds. I am going for the first time on Friday. Me and the bossman are taking a half day off and heading down. Hope to have something to report back on.

Get there are get in line early
be prepared with a list of wants
move with a purpose and don't waste time looking at things not on your list
bring a canvas bag for purchases
by noon it will be so crowded it will become nearly impossible to move through the aisles
avoid the chili cheese dogs...the bathrooms there will be crowded...lol

When I go to gun shows if I'm searching for ammo, I'll usually bring something like this. Works like a charm.

By 11:00 am you wouldn't be able to walk down the aisle with a cart like that. I quit going to the 1500 years ago do ti conditions...went last year and left in under 2 hours...it was to crowded to walk through. I am not sure why they don't change to one of the larger buildings at the fairgrounds other than it would cost the promoters more and they don't care about the customers...just how many tables they can pack into a small place. When I left the last time I asked about legal capacity and was told they had no way to keep an accurate count. The LEO I spoke privately said he was sure if a count was done it would be at least 50% over the buildings max limit. This was at about 11 am btw...it gets worse as the day goes on.

That would drive me crazy. I think I'll stick to online, and not have to pay the new 10% sales tax in Commiefornia.

Will the new CA laws still let you buy unmarked ammo by mail?

Until 2/2011. It's a good reason to go camping in Nevada. :wavey:

Re: Any Hoosiers heading to Indy1500 Gun Show??

The 1500 has really become quite an unpleasant experience for me recently. Maybe I'm just getting old and am less inclined to put up with crap, but the show used to seem more open and navigable. In efforts to cram more tables in and to allow more buyers in, they have narrowed the aisles and have smelly hillbillies packed in nut to butt. If they are going to keep the floodgates open as far as letting people in, the should at the very least ban strollers. Nothing fubars the flow through the show like a motorized scooter or a stroller. I'll give the handicapped a pass, but strollers...c'mon.

I've been fortunate to make a couple purchases off of some decent sellers there, but it seems like most of the tables are staffed by jerks who think they are doing you a favor by letting you buy something from them. I guess one could make the argument that they have to deal with the unwashed masses all weekend long, so tempers are short...but c'mon, you chose this job, at least try to show some class.

Someone on an Indiana gun forum claimed to be in the know that the state fairgrounds was ready to rid themselves of the 1500, but is under contract to keep holding the show. As a result they are unwilling to provide them a larger venue.

If you are going for something specific, its a good show and probably worth your trip, especially if you can find a deal. (I've never had any success haggling...they just have too many buyers there...) If you are going just to window shop, I would skip it and shop online.
